A biteplane is an appliance that is removable and used to cover the occlusal (or bite) surfaces of the teeth so that they cannot touch, and positions the jaw in a "relaxed" position. It may be recommended for patients who:
-exhibit excessive wear on their teeth to prevent further wear (and sensitivity)
-have symptoms related to TMD (Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction) to improve symptoms
-have parafunctional habits (grinding, clenching)
